Metal Master
[sc:adsense]
As Self-Storage Auction buyers we have the potential of finding many different items in a storage locker. What we look for is, of coarse, precious and other types of metals. Knowing what the value is of the metals we discover is critical for maximizing the overall value of what you purchased.
It doesn’t matter if found items are kept or they are resold; the storage auction buyer would be a fool if him or her didn’t know what the value is. Going down too the local pawnshop or cash for gold business to get a value just won’t cut it in today’s world. The cost of fuel, the ridicules cost of doing business with these people, and the time spent running around cuts into the ROI real fast.
My Precious Metals “Toolbox” Includes:
- 1 Rare Earth Magnet
- 1 Metal Testing Kit (for testing if an item is real or not)
- 1 Gemstone Tester (check if the Gemstones are real or not)
- 1 Troy Ounce, Gram, and DWT Digital Scale
- 1 Shipping Digital Scale
- Assorted Hand Tools and Jewelers Tools (As Needed)
- And, Metal Master
Use the links above for finding more information about the other items on the list. check out this video for a Metal Master Introduction.
Metal Master is a great tool for the Storage Auction Buyer to use for determining the value of 8 different metals. It as simple as checking a web site, kitco.com, entering the latest Spot Value and Weight of the metal you are working with and presto! Metal Master will output the Melt Value and some other data for you to use when selling the item. Nothing could be simpler!
At this time, the metals Metal Master can calculate values for is:
- Gold
- Silver
- Platinum
- Palladium
- Aluminum
- Copper
- Lead
- Zinc
Other metals can be added if needed.
Real World Example:
I have a 14K gold necklace that I want to sell on E-Bay. Here are the steps one would use to sell the item on E-bay.
- Check that the necklace is really 14K Gold (Gold Testing Kit Acid)
- Evaluate any gemstones that may be mounted on the necklace (A run to the local jeweler may be needed here)
- Open Up Metal Master on your computer
- Click the Gold Button on the Metal Master interface to be taken to the kitco.com web site for checking what the latest market value for Gold is.
- Enter the current gold spot value on the Metal Master interface in the provided space
- Weigh the necklace on your digital scale (in grams is fine)
- On Metal Master, select the metal you want to work with (Gold)
- Then select the purity value of the gold. In this case you would select .583 – 14KT
- Enter the weight of the necklace in the appropriate place (Troy Ounce, Gram, DWT) on the Metal Master interface
- You will notice that the other values are filled in for you. For instance, if I entered 3.7 in the Grams space, Metal Master will convert that value to Troy Ounces and Pennyweight and display the values for each.
- You will also notice the numbers changing in the lower section of Metal Master. The Melt Value of the 3.7 Gram necklace will be shown along with some other data. The other data shown can be used for selling the necklace.
Selling on E-bay and other auction sites
One suggested way of selling on E-bay would be to list the necklace at just under the current melt spot value price. Use a value somewhere in the area of 10%-5% under melt value. This of coarse depends on the type, condition and craftsmanship of the item being sold. There is nothing written in stone here. Then you would also want to have a “Buy It Now” price for your Ebay auction. This value would be in the area of 5%-15% over the melt value and allows those that want to get the item now to do so.
Another way of selling jewelry on Ebay is to use a set value price of around 10%-25% over the melt value of the item. Also include the option for the purchaser to “Make An Offer”. Granted, this way of selling jewelry on Ebay is a pain in the rear because of all the low-ballers that it attracts. Just keep in mind that you know what the item is valued at and you should use the counter offer option when it seems like the purchaser is open to one.
As you can see, Metal Master is a great tool to use for the valuation of the Metals that you may find in a Storage Locker.

RESELLERS LOOK!
Do you have a web site and would like to make a few bucks selling Metal Master on your own site?
Great!
Resellers get a fantastic bargain on bulk License Key purchases. The way it goes is I will give a 1/2 Percent Discount on each License Key (Up to a total 50% discount) that is purchased for resale. For example if 10 license Keys were purchased the reseller would get a 5% discount on those 10 license keys purchased. So, the total cost for the 10 license keys would be only $94.72 instead of the regular value of $99.70. You will then have control over the price, distribution and collecting the money for the sales of Metal Master.
Heck, imagine purchasing 100 (or more) License Keys at a 50% discount and distributing Metal Master yourself. You have the potential of Making A Whoping $498.50 if you sold metal Master at the suggested price of $9.97. No Waiting For “Affiliate Payments” and none of the hassles of signing up for anything. Pure Profit for you!
I do have a minimum number of bulk License Keys that can be purchased. The minimum is set at a very reasonable, 10 License Keys.
